Student Assessment and Tutorial Services is a tutorial service designed to help students improve their academic performance. Their progress can then be tracked and closely monitored throughout their academic career.

The Tutorial Services are designed to help motivate students who:

  1. believe that they are capable of doing better work but despite their increased efforts are unable to improve

  2. tell themselves that they cannot do the work and are in a state of panic

  3. are unable to keep up with the pace of a class

  4. simply do not understand what is expected of them

  5. are not doing their best because the pace of the class is either too slow or not challenging enough

  6. wish to accelerate their progress in their coursework

  7. have a difficult time organizing their schoolwork, remembering their assignments, doing their homework, and completing long term projects

  8. have a difficult time concentrating and staying focused

  9. have missed many days from school due to illness, or due to personal reasons

The Assessment Services are designed to:

  1.  help students recognize exactly what has been holding them back
  2. determine how a student learns and what difficulties he or she may encounter
  3. find out how much a student is willing to do to achieve their academic goals
  4. judge whether the assigned academic curriculum is suitable to the student’s temperament
  5. help students with A.D.D. and learning disabilities work with their strengths and weaknesses so that they can compete academically

During the assessment, the student will learn what he or she must know in order to get the work done as easily and efficiently as possible. In addition, information is presented in a way that is best suited to the individual student. This in turn minimizes the student’s frustration and maximizes his or her skills and self-confidence.

Ben Johnson is a professional educator/tutor who is an alumnus of Yale University, class of 1978. He has a masters degree in learning disabilities and test assessment from Georgia State University. He has three years of high school teaching experience at Noble and Greenough School in Dedham, Massachusetts. In the Atlanta area, he has taught for seven years at The Westminster Schools, two years at The Galloway School, and four years at Georgia Perimeter College (formerly DeKalb College) in the Department of Developmental Math.

Mr. Johnson is aware of the problems that a college preparatory school student encounters. He is able to assess their individual needs through testing and analyses, and can implement strategies that help the student comprehend and master difficult concepts.
